As one half of Sfere Recordings along with house music legend, Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer's name has rapidly grown amongst house music aficionados. His prolific and diverse production styles which range from gospel to pan-African slanted works have been picked up by labels in Europe such as Basic, Madhouse and Chillifunk as well as stateside with releases on Ibadan Records, Large and King Street. Ferrer is now poised to rise to the very top of the game. His interest in production and dance music first lead him into the world of early 90's electronic music. After a number of years working with the critically acclaimed, Synewave label from New York, he ditched production in favor of school. By the mid 90's, he'd hooked up with Kerri Chandler who re-introduced him to the soul and funk in music from his youth via house. Ferrer's love of such artists as T-Connection, DJ Rodgers, early Herbie Hancock, early Cameo and Confunkshun finally found ways to surface in his production. Chandler recognized Ferrer's talent for production and business sense early on. Together they formed Sfere Recordings in 1998, Sfere being a name derived from Chandler's Shelter/Ibadan classic "Atmosphere" combined with Ferrer's old techno alias "Aurasphere". The label was devised with the ambitions of exploring many different aspects of soulful house including Brazilian and jazz sounds. The clear emphasis at Sfere, however, has been on song orientated material since both partners believe in the timelessness of a great song. To this extent, the focus has also been on developing the careers of local Jersey gospel vocalists, such as Anthony Flanagan and most recently KT Brooks and Jennifer Renee Morrison. With these artists, Ferrer has grown tremendously as a songwriter and his wide ranging skills in this respect set his material apart from many of his contemporaries. The pseudo bootleg concept, Lost Tribes Of Ibadan, provides an outlet for Ferrer's other ear for melody. His mix of, "Orixas" , remains one of his most successful records to date and the follow-up "Avareh" established the Sfere offshoot as a label to be reckoned with. Ferrer's DJ career, runs in tangent with his increased visibility as a producer. So far, his schedule has brought him to cities in the UK, France, Sweden, Finland, Belgium and Holland. He also made his first appearances in Asia with dates in Kuala Lampur in Malasyia and Singapore. Stateside, he's a regular contributor to such New York dance party staples as Bang The Party, Filter 14 and N'Ice. He's also a regular at San Francisco's leading soulful house party Atmosfere.
